- Saudi Aramco reported domestic refining capacity at 2.9 million b/d in 2020 (45% of the global capacity Saudi Aramco held) prior to the Jazan Refinery Complex opening in 2021. Jazan, located in southwest Saudi Arabia, increased domestic capacity by an additional 400,000 b/d in 2021, while throughput remained at 50% (Table 4).15 Table 2.

- With this certification, the platform will be able to respond the expected rise in SAF demand in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The SAF produced from used cooking oil reduces carbon dioxide (CO 2) emissions by at least 80% on average over the entire lifecycle, compared with their fossil equivalent.

- The complex will ultimately be owned and operated by the SATORP refinery. In 2008, TotalEnergies and Saudi Aramco established the first joint venture between the two companies, culminating in the construction of SATORP, a refining and petrochemical platform located in the industrial city of Jubail on the country's east coast.
