12,160. As a basis for this study, 5000 ton rice bran/year are supplied (batch extraction) and the total operational time corresponds to 6200 h/year. Regarding to the batch extraction step, the rice bran supply corresponds to 806 kg/h and as a product of the process approximately 161 kg/h crude RBO and 645 kg/h deoiled rice bran are obtained.
Increasing the extraction temperature from 40°C to 60°C and solvent (hexane and isopropanol) to bran ratios (w/w) of 2:1 and 3:1 increased the RBO yield. Extraction at 60°C for ten minutes with 3:1 solvent to bran ratio using hexane solvent yielded about 3.6% more oil, while extraction with isopropanol produces 6.4% more oil than at 40°C.

Rice bran is a by-product of rice processing, obtained through the polishing of the rice grain. It presents a considerable high oil content (between 20 and 25%) and it is considered an excellent source of nutritionally beneficial compounds, such as tocotrienols, tocopherols and sterols. Manufacturing Process of Rice Bran Oil
The rice bran oil manufacturing is done with chemical solvents or using pressing process. Here we suggest a small capacity rice bran oil guide and have used the pressing method, while large capacity units employ solvent making technique. We have to state that the hot extraction method will provide high quality and more yield when compared
The production involves several key steps. First, the bran gets separated from the grain. Next, it undergoes a process to extract the oil, usually involving solvents or pressing. The crude oil then gets refined to remove impurities, resulting in clear, healthy oil ready for use.
Rice bran oil production process——rice bran pretreatment
The oil content is very low in rice bran, so the most commen used processing method of rice bran is pretreatment & solvent extraction. The above video shows
The above video shows us the production process of solvent extraction of rice bran oil. By watching this video, we can easily learn about what main equipment...

Pilot Scale Extraction and Fractionation of Rice Bran Oil Using Supercritical Carbon Dioxide. Z. Shen M. Palmer S. Ting R. Fairclough. Chemistry, Environmental Science. 1997. In the first stage of this two-stage process, crude rice bran oil was extracted with supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) from a 300 g batch of rice bran.
1. Introduction. Rice bran is a byproduct of the rice milling industry obtained from milling of brown rice to produce white rice. It contains 15%–20% of oil. Apart from oil, rice bran is a promising source for proteins, carbohydrates, dietary fiber, vitamins, tocopherol, γ-oryzanol, and phospholipids (Tao, 1989; Houston, 1972; Saunders, 1986).
- How is rice bran oil extracted?
- There are about 15¨C20% crude oil in rice bran; normally, the rice bran oil is extracted by pressing or solvent extraction methods, such as supercritical carbon dioxide extraction and enzymatic extraction, and then refined by decolorization, deodorization, or other processes.
- How to refine rice bran oil?
- In industrial production, rice bran oil is mostly refined by hydration degumming, active clay decolorization, steam deacidification and deodorization, and low-temperature freezing dewaxing. The specific method is to add 2¡ë~3¡ë phosphoric acid and a proper amount of water to treat the crude rice bran oil at 90 °C for degumming.
- What are the technologies of rice bran oil?
- After that, the fatty acid composition, bioactive compounds, and the processing technologies of rice bran oil are described and the refining technology of rice bran oil (degumming, deacidification, dewaxing, etc.) as well as the technologies to remaining the bioactive compounds in rice bran oil are introduced.
- How is rice bran treated by extruding technology?
- Qiao et al. treated rice bran by extruding technology and achieved the optimal process parameters that the lipase inhibition rate was 76% when the water content was 19%, the screw speed was 180 r/min, and the cylinder temperature was 130 °C (Qiao et al. 2012 ).
