Optimization of oil recovery from oilseed rape by cold pressing using
The obtained pressed rapeseed oil contained about 92.4% of crude rapeseed oil and 7.6% of solid residue. The temperature of the pressed oil at the exit from the press was 40 °C. The mass flow rate of the press cake and pressed rapeseed oil under these pressing conditions were 174 ± 22 g/min and 52.7 ± 0.1 g/min, respectively.
Cleaning involved a 4.25 kW grain cleaner with 3 t/hr capacity, which removed any foreign particle present in the raw rapeseed. Upon completion, the cleaned seeds were fed by a hopping process into 6YL-130 screw press. This equipment had a rated power consumption of 18.5 kW and could press 9–12 t of rapeseed per day (Oil-Expeller, 2022).

The cleaned rapeseeds are fed in the kettle of the oil press machine to squeeze out oil from it. Rapeseed contains 40 – 45 % oil content. After a 2 stage pressing, about 6.5 – 7% oil is still present in the rapeseed cake which will be used as animal feed. The Cleaned rapeseed is conditioned using Steam in a Vertical Cooking Kettle.
Oil pressing was carried out using a small capacity Komet screw press (Model CA 59 G; IBG Monforts, Mnchengladbach, Germany), with a 6-mm press nozzle die and a screw speed of 20 rpm. The oxidative stability of the pressed oils was determined using a ‘Metrohm Rancimat model 743’, according to AOCS Official Method Cd 12b-92.
Cold pressed rapeseed (Brassica napus) oil
Yang et al. (2013) reported the phytosterols content in the cold pressed rapeseed oil from different cultivars in China were within the range reported by Codex standards for the phytosterols content in low erucic acid rapeseed oil, which ranged from 432 to 1190 mg/100 g with a mean of 826 mg/100 g. β-sitosterol, campesterol, and brassicasterol contributed 53.6%, 30.7%, and 12.2%, respectively
As a result, the crude oil extraction degree achieved by cold pressing was 60.8% compared to the Soxhlet method. This extraction degree is lower than previously reported for screw pressing of
Oil Expression Characteristics of Rapeseed for a Small Capacity Screw Press
A maximum oil recovery of 73.14% was obtained when Jatropha seeds were conditioned to a dry basis (db) moisture level of 9.69% and cooked at 110 degrees C for 10 min. Screw press oil recovery
This study was focused on the analysis of optimize the pressing process of rapeseeds (Brassica napus L.) using screw press. For pressing of oil a screw press Farmer 20 duo (Farmer 20, Farmet a.s., Ceska Skalice, Czech republic) was used. The screw rotation speed 10, 20, 30, 40, 55 and 65 rpm was used. Oil recovery efficiency and specific mechanical energy were decreased when the seed material
- Can cold pressed rapeseed oil be used as functional oil?
- Cold-pressed rapeseed oil can use as functional oil due to its health benefits. Rapeseed oil is the second most abundant produced edible oil in the world with low erucic acid and low glucosinolate. Thus, the quality of rapeseed oil had attracted global attention.
- What factors affect the production of high-quality cold pressed rapeseed oil?
- High-quality oilseeds, optimized parameters in the oil pressing process, immediate cleaning of the crude oil, storage conditions, and the type of packaging material are factors that affect the production of high-quality cold pressed rapeseed oil. There are two types of oil pressing methods: cold press and hot press.
- What is cold pressed rapeseed oil?
- Rapeseed is the second main oilseed crop in the production of edible oils after soybean oil in the world. There has been increasing interest in cold pressed rapeseed oil due to its preserved nutritional qualities. Cold pressed rapeseed oil offers health benefits due to its unique fatty acid profile and high concentration of bioactive compounds.
- How much rapeseed oil can be produced a day?
- There is an increasing trend in the establishment of small- and medium-sized extraction plants to focus on the production of CPO with a capacity between 0.5 and 25 tons per day. These plants normally produce cold press rapeseed oil through the use of only the screw press.
