  • The case of palm oil (exported at 70%) is very specific with a high concentration of the production in few countries and the necessity of processing near the production sites. This specificity of sunflower compared to other major oilseeds is that it is largely processed in the production countries.
  • Is sunflower oil healthy?
  • Also it is healthier than other types of oil, for example palm oil and groundnut oil. Sunflower oil is low in saturated fat and high in polyunsaturated fat. Oil seed production in Tanzania mainly focuses on ground nuts (40%), sunflower (36%), sesame (15%), cotton (8%) and palm oil (1%).

  • Between 1970 and 2020, the world¡¯s production of palm oil increased by about 40 times. Global production went from only 2 million tonnes to around 80 million tonnes.
