Oil extracted from avocado seed may alter the hepatic lipid metabolism by increasing hepatic lipogenesis and concentrations of lipid biosynthesis enzymes (Qin & Zhong, 2016). For the purpose of oil extraction, it is important to select avocado varieties with high lipid content in the mesocarp.
How is avocado oil extracted?
Cold-pressed extraction of avocado oil was initially introduced by Werman and Neeman (1987). They diluted the avocado mesocarp with water at a ratio of 1:3 and agitated the mixture under defined pH (4.5¨C8), temperatures (25¨C85 °C) and sodium chloride solution (0¨C8%) for 30 min before centrifuging to obtain oil.
How does avocado oil work?
The solid remnants, or pomace, are skillfully evacuated via a pump and a dedicated discharge pipe. The Avocado Oil plant is equipped with a Heating system with a double jacket and circulation pump to maintain consistent temperature inside the malaxing tanks.
How is avocado paste malaxed?
Avocado paste is malaxed at 40¨C50 °C for 60¨C90 min for the oil released from the oil-bearing cells. The liquid phase (oil and water) is separated from the solid phase (pomace) at 3000¨C4000 rpm. The liquid phase passes through a polishing disc centrifuge to separate the oil from the water.
