Do oil revenues affect South Sudan’s trade balance?
Similar to Sudan, oil revenues have also a positive impact on South Sudan¡¯s trade balance. As can be seen in Figure 18, oil exports led to a trade surplus of more than US$5 billion in 2010 and 2011. However, the oil shutdown of 2012 reflected the sensitivity of south Sudan¡¯s trade balance to the oil revenues.
