Can life cycle assessment assess environmental impact of mustard oil extraction process?
Life cycle assessment (LCA) has been used to quantify the potential environmental impact of a process. The present study assessed the environmental hotspots of mustard oil extraction process from mustard seeds using a life cycle assessment (LCA) method.
How is mustard oil made?
The essential oil results from grinding mustard seed, mixing the grounds with water, and isolating the resulting volatile oil by distillation. It can also be produced by dry distillation of the seed. Pressed mustard oil is used as cooking oil in some cultures, but sale is restricted in some countries due to high levels of erucic acid.
Does mustard oil extraction plant contribute to GWP & hp?
Conclusions In this study, through investigation and analysis of mustard oil extraction plant at an Indian firm was carried through life cycle assessment. Results of this study indicate that the seed + seed cleaning machine and oil filteration & packaging are the primary contributor to GWP, HP, POCP, and HTP.
What is mustard oil?
