  • Where does peanut come from?
  • 1. Introduction Peanut, or Arachis hypogeae L., is currently a vital oilseed crop widely utilized in the confectionery, snack, and fat/oil manufacturing industries [ 1 ]. This plant belongs to the Fabaceae family and originates from South America.
  • How is peanut oil extracted?
  • An oil screw expeller was used to extract the oil, which was then subjected to malaxation and centrifugation processes at 25 °C for 30 min and at 5000 rpm, respectively. Peanuts were found to have the highest free fatty acid content at 1.36%, which can result in poor-quality oils with significant losses during the refining process.
  • Does osmotic pressure affect peanut oil content?
  • Peanut ( Arachis hypogaea L.) is an important oil crop globally and high oil content is one of the major targets in peanut breeding programs. Previous studies indicated that the osmotic pressure (OP) of the leaves of peanut plants subjected to drought stress wasnegatively correlated with kernel oil content.
  • Can regenerated plants produce peanut mutants with increased oil content?
  • In the current study, each of the 15 regenerated plants produced offspring with oil content>55%. The procedures used here therefore seem to be useful for the screening and selection of peanut mutants with increased oil content. Among all 61 lines tested, 47 lines had oil contents>55% and nine lines had oil contents>59%.
