Alternate solvent for soybean oil extraction based on extractability
Ethyl acetate, acetone, 2-propanol, 1-propanol, and ethanol were screened among the class 3 category solvents as an alternative to hexane based on operational and occupational safety and bio-renewability potential. All five solvents exhibited higher extractability (22.3 to 23.2%) than hexane (21.5%) with soybean flour. Additionally, there was no significant difference in the fatty acid and
The work concluded that both 2-MeOx and 2-MeOx 95.5% are good candidates to replace hexane in industrial processes for the extraction of soybean oil, as they gave similar compositions for oil and
Recent advances in green soybean oil extraction: A review
According to USDA [1], the production of soybeans worldwide in 2020/2021 was about 360,000 thousand metric tons. The soybean seeds are mainly destined for protein, edible oil, and biodiesel production. The main components of the seeds are proteins (40 wt%), lipids (20 wt%), carbohydrates (15 wt%), and ashes (5 wt%).
Aqueous oil extraction is an approach that could replace organic solvent extraction with water. Compared to typical solvent extraction and mechanical pressing processes, aqueous extraction has higher oil recovery (over 80%) than the mechanical pressing process, and resolve issues resulted from chemical loading and remaining in the hexane extraction. Proteases are used to assist free oil
Improvement of Soybean Oil Solvent Extraction through Enzymatic
1. Introduction. Seed oils represent 70% of global oil production, of which 30% is soybean oil. Oilseeds are the most important export items in Argentina [].In oilseeds, the vacuoles within cells contain oil, and both cell walls and vacuoles have to be broken in order to improve solvent extraction.
The extraction mechanism can be described in the following three steps: 1) penetration of solvent into the soybean solids; 2) solubilisation of oil in the solvent; 3) oil diffusion from the solid matrix into the liquid solvent phase [4]. The oil concentration gradient from the solid matrix to the liquid phase is the driving force of diffusion.
Soybean oil extraction with ethanol from multiple-batch assays
Brazil and the U.S.A. lead the soybean production, but Brazil is the main exporter, being China the main importer [2]. Soybean oil is the 2nd most consumed oil (28%) [1], being widely employed in the food industry and in homemade foods [3], being also one of the lipidic material mostly used for biodiesel production worldwide [4].
The environmental impacts associated with field production and industrial processing of soybean into crude vegetable oil in Nigeria was therefore studied using the life cycle impacts assessment tool.
SOLVENT EXTRACTION OF OIL FROM SOYBEANS
A bibliography on the solvent extraction of soybeans and soybean products 1944-1968. Journal of the American Oil Chemist’s Society 1955, 32 (12)
Utilization of membrane techniques to separate the small molecular CO 2 from the soybean oil hydrocarbon appears to be a much better R & D direction for development. This article illustrates the ability to use life cycle as an aid to R & D to select more advantageous directions for process improvement.
- Which solvent is used in soybean oil production?
- Solvent extraction and expelling are the main processes used in soybean oil production. Hexane is currently the leading solvent in extraction , . This solvent has a high solubility for oil extraction, availability, low price, low boiling point, and heat of vaporization .
- What mathematical models are used in soybean oil extraction?
- Comerlatto et al. and Cerutti et al. have applied mathematical models derived from conservation equations to fixed bed soybean oil extraction. Another mathematical model was applied to soybean oil extraction through immersion and percolation by Pramparo et al. .
- Which model is best for soybean oil extraction?
- In a general conclusion, it can be affirmed that the empirical So and Macdonald model is the best model to describe the soybean oil extraction, followed by the mass transfer kinetic model when correctly used. The typical values for the mass transfer parameters found in the literature for soybean oil extraction are presented in Table 7. Table 7.
- Can green solvents be used in soybean oil extraction?
- The application of green solvents in soybean oil extraction is reviewed. Hansen parameters and COSMO-based models can serve as a solvent selection tool. Direct substitution of hexane with green solvents is the most promising alternative. Kinetic models and the thermodynamic assessment are analyzed comprehensively.
