Sunflower seeds are cold-pressed (or hot pressed) at a certain temperatures, and the protein-rich cake that remains after the seeds are processed into oil is used as animal feed, retaining 99% of the nutrients in sunflower oil without the use of chemical solvents.
Production of cold pressed oils takes place in two stages. First, the raw material (seed) is prepared to extract the oil. In the second phase, the edible unrefined cold pressed oil is mechanically extracted from the seed and remains of the cake as a by-product (Dimi, 2005).
