  • How has the production of Sesame changed over the past 60 years?
  • Over the past 60 years, global production of sesame has gradually increased. Sesame production increased from 1.42 million in 1961 to 6.67 million tons in 2021 ( Fig. 1 ). This corresponds to an increase of 369.7% ( Table 1 ). This growth is attributed to factors such as rising demand for sesame oil and improved farming practices.
  • What is sesame oil?
  • Sesame oil is an edible vegetable oil derived from sesame seeds. The oil is one of the earliest-known crop-based oils. Worldwide mass modern production is limited due to the inefficient manual harvesting process required to extract the oil. Oil made from raw seeds, which may or may not be cold-pressed, is used as a cooking oil.
  • Does sesame have a role in oil production & quality?
  • The genes identified in sesame for oil production and quality probably play important roles in other closely related oilseed species (for example, sunflower) as well, offering the opportunity to look for genes with common function.
  • Who owns sesame oil?
  • The Oh brothers had children who assisted them with their Sesame Oil production enterprise. Since 2002, the factory has integrated all of its operations and relocated to the current 20,000 square foot Senoko Drive facility.
