Production and physicochemical properties of safflower seed
The oil extraction. Safflower seed oil is needed to obtain biodiesel fuel by transesterification method. Hydraulic press, screw press oil expeller and soxhlet extraction methods were obtained the required oil. The optimum moisture content of most seed species should be between 6.3% and 11.3% by weight [53], [54].
In recent years, many reports on oil extraction from safflower seeds by mechanical pressing and solvent extraction (Taha & Matthus, 2018; Wang et al., 2019), but there is a lack of data on the application of SFE in oil extraction from safflower seed oil. The extraction method heavily influences the quantity and the quality of the oil.
A Metabolic Perspective and Opportunities
Safflower seed extract treatments were orally administered 100 to 200 mg/kg weight in mice and the results showed that tumor growth decreased in cisplatin-treated mice . In vitro, the activity of safflower yellow (SY) within the pulmonary metastasis of breast cancer was demonstrated, suggesting the anti-metastatic effect of SY .
Safflower seeds are enriched with 12 – 22% protein on dry matter base and 26 – 37% oil (Emongor, 2010). The seed ca ke of this crop has preferably been used as fodder for goat,
Characterization of Wei Safflower Seed Oil Using Cold
Wei safflower seed oil (WSO) prepared by the cold pressing method and organic solvent extraction method was characterized in this study. The yield of cold-pressed WSO (CP-WSO) was inferior to that of n -hexane-extracted WSO (HE-WSO). The physicochemical properties (refractive index, density, iodine value, insoluble impurities) and fatty acid
Degenerative disease mainly affect the bone and joints health. Safflower seeds and oil have been reported to curtail these degenerative diseases. Recently, few studies have been designed to develop functional foods using safflower seeds and oil (Choi et al., 2011, Zhou et al., 2014). There has been a concentrated effort to design dietray
Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Potentials of Seed Oil from
Safflower Crude Edible Seed Oil Extraction. Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) seeds were harvested in June 2017 from flower heads of plants grown in the northwest of Tunisia. The seeds were then sieved manually in order to clean them from impurities and dust. The edible seed oil was extracted by first cold pressing, using a machine (SMIR
The researchers also noted the presence of this androgen in native oils used in human nutrition, such as olive oil, corn oil, and safflower seed oil. Safflower seeds have relatively high phytosterol content, ranging from 2000 to 4500 μg g 1, with β-sitosterol constituting the majority (50–70%) of the total amount of plant sterol [20, 32].
Carthamus tinctorius L. (Safflower) Flower Extract Attenuates
This study aimed to examine the hepatic and anti-steatotic protective effects of methanolic extract from Carthamus tinctorius (safflower) flowers (SFFE), using a rat model of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and to examine the molecular mechanisms underlying these effects. Adult male Wistar rats were used for this study. First, T2DM was induced in some rats by feeding them a high-fat diet (HFD
Safflower is a fast growing, erect, winter/spring-growing annual herb, that resembles a thistle. [2] Originating from a leaf rosette emerges a branched central stem (also referred to as terminal stem), when day length and temperature increase. The main shoot reaches heights of 30–150 cm (12–59 in). The plant also develops a strong taproot
- How to extract oil from safflower seed?
- Conclusion In summary, in this research, oil extraction from safflower seed was carried out by different extraction methods and the extracted oil was converted into biodiesel. Hydraulic press, motor driven screw press (expeller) and soxhlet extraction methods were applied for oil extraction from seeds.
- Does solvent extraction affect oil yield of safflower seeds?
- Solvent extraction has great advantage as high yield£¨£¾ Abstract: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of different extraction solvents (petroleum benzene, hexane, diethyl ether and acetone) and extraction methods (hot and cold) on oil yield of safflower seeds and its fatty acid compositions.
- Does safflower seed oil morphologically change after extraction?
- Changes in the morphological structure of safflower seeds extracted by different methods In order to better understand the mechanism behind the HP, SPE and SE extraction methods of safflower seed oil, the structural changes on the microstructure of the samples were investigated using before and after extraction (SEM).
- What is the oil content of safflower seeds?
- Oil contents of safflower seeds extracted by hot extraction system were changed between 37.40% (acetone) and 39.53% (petroleum benzene), while that of cold extraction was varied between 39.96% (petroleum benzene) and 39.40% (diethyl ether).
