120 TPD Palm Kernel Oil Processing Plant installed in Nigeria
This is a large scale palm kernel oil processing project set up in Nigeria. The production capacity is 120 tons per day. It is a complete plant including Seed Cleaner, GOYUM 27 – Screw Oil Press, Material Handling Equipment, Screening Tank, Oil Filter Press Machines and Control Panel. Below are a few glimpses of the PKO Plant.
The oilcake leaves the extraction machine through an adjustable cone and is then delivered to the second pressing. Because of their high oil content, Palm kernels have to be subjected to 2 stage pressing for maximum oil yield. The residue from First Stage Press is then transferred to a second palm kernel oil expeller machine for final crushing.
Palm and Palm Kernel Oil Production and Processing
The first stage pressing will extract out the oil from 45–49% to less than 15% in the palm kernel expeller cake (PKC). The palm kernel expeller cake, which still contains approximately 15% of oil, is further fed into another series of screw presses to extrude the remaining oil until the oil in palm kernel expeller cake is about 6 to 7%.
Oil Expeller / Oil Press. Palm kernels contain 45 – 50% oil content. To achieve maximum oil yield, it requires 2 stage pressing. The residual meal / cake obtained from the 1st pressing is transferred to the 2nd screw press for final crushing. After a 2 stage pressing, a residual oil of less than 7% is left in the Palm Kernel Cake (PKC) which
5. PALM KERNEL OIL EXTRACTION - Food and Agriculture Organization
The kernel processors have to go around the palm oil processors during the peak season, when prices are lowest, to purchase the nuts for drying. The nut processing and oil extraction is undertaken in the dry season when the pressure to obtain raw materials has subsided. The traditional palm oil processing starts with the shelling of the palm nuts.
Research and development work in many disciplines – biochemistry, chemical and mechanical engineering – and the establishment of plantations, which provided the opportunity for large scale fully mechanised processing for palm oil, resulted in the evolution of a sequence of processing steps designed to extract, from a harvested oil palm bunch, a high yield of a product of acceptable quality
Expeller-Pressed vs Cold-Pressed Oil - Goodnature
An expeller press or “screw press,” is a machine that presses seeds and nuts through a cavity and uses intense friction and pressure to extract oil. During this process, there isn’t any added heat but since the seeds are pressed using friction, heat is created (around 140-210 F). Once the seeds are pressed, the oil is removed.
Tel: 237-39.14.22; 93.96.85. SERMI manufactures complete palm oil and palm kernel oil mills to order. The company works with private farmers having an average holding of 1 500 ha and design custom-made medium-scale plants for the estates. Twin-screw type presses are manufactured and supplied to medium-scale processors.
Palm kernel meal and palm kernel expellers
The nutrient concentration of palm kernel meal and palm kernel expellers depends on the method of oil extraction, the species of the palm nut, and the amount of shell remaining in the meal . Palm kernel expellers have a residual oil concentration of 6 to 8 %, whereas solvent-extracted meals contain 1 to 2 % residual oil (Table 1; [26, 27]).
At its simplest, palm kernel expeller (PKE) is the residue left after oil is extracted from the kernel of the oil palm fruit. It is a valuable byproduct, as it contains a high amount of protein and fiber, making it an ideal ingredient for animal feed. In addition, it can also be used as a fuel for boilers or as a fertilizer.
- What is a palm kernel oil expeller machine?
- A high torque and low rotational speed palm kernel oil expeller machine was developed by introducing an adjustable choke mechanism that permits adjustment of the back pressure to regulate the thickness and dryness of the pressed cake passing through the clearance between the barrel and the screw shaft.
- Where is the screw press used in palm kernel oil extraction?
- Most enterprises involved in palm kernel oil extraction business in Nigeria employ the screw press, most of which are imported from Malaysia, England, and Germany and lack certain important local content in the design and development.
- Do worm screws in palm kernel oil screw press need to be replaced?
- Worm Screws in palm kernel oil screw press have been found to fail often and usually require constant replacement. The failure rate is also more with locally fabricated worm screws which usually need to be replaced after about 4 ¨C 5 batches of inlet capacity of palm kernels have been processed.
- How do palm kernel machines work?
- The palm-kernel machines uses pressure and friction from the screw drives to move as well as to compress the oil seeds. The oil that is expelled then seeps through the small openings into a container. These openings are very small which prevents any kind of solid material or residue from the seeds to mix with the extracted oil.
