Oil Palm Plantation & Milling - Wilmar International
The key products of oil palm cultivation and milling are crude palm oil and palm kernel. In ensuring that our plantations and mills operate in an environmentally and socially responsible manner, we are guided by our that, applies to our own operations as well as all third-party suppliers. Concurrently, we continue to pursue the Roundtable on
The results showed that for oil palm, the FFB yield average of 25-year life span was 20.7 t ha-1 yr-1. The FFB production WF was 1166 m3 t-1 FFB (WF green, 1055; WF blue, 3.56; and WF grey, 107 m3 t-1). The results showed that the green WF was higher than the grey or the blue WF as planting of oil palm in Malaysia is without irrigation.
List of palm oil mills and FFB processing capacity
In Perak, there are currently 29 operating palm oil mills with fresh fruit bunch (FFB) processing capacity of at least 20 tonne/hour as listed in Table 2, totalling to 1,494 ton of processed FFB/hour.
A palm oil mill produces crude palm oil and kernels as primary products and biomass as secondary product. The capacity of mills varies between 2.5 - 150 MT FFB/hr. A typical mill has many operational units as shown in Figure 2. This comprises of sterilization, stripping, digestion and pressing, clarification, purification, drying and storage.
Palm Oil - AOCS
Introduction. Palm oil is extracted from fresh fruit bunches (FFB) by a mechanical process, whereby a mill commonly handles 60 to 100 mt per hour of FFB. The palm oil mill of today is based predominantly on concepts developed in the early 1950s (Mongana Report). An average size FFB weighs about 20-30 kg and contains 1500-2000 fruits (Fig. 1).
The Black Bunch Census or BBC and the trossen telling method as shown in Figure 1 can predict FFB production for the next 4 and 6 months [15,32]. The method of bunche cencus on palm (BBC and

The FFB solid wastes are used as fuel in palm oil mills to generate steam, which enables the palm oil mills to be self-sufficient in energy (Yusoff, 2006); however, more of the wastes are generated than required in the palm oil mills. Therefore, proper utilisation of the FFB wastes remains a challenge for palm oil millers and local authorities.
The increasing FFB production significantly escalated crude palm oil (CPO) production up to 2,9% or about 283.659 metric tons. ANJ got increasing palm kernel oil (PKO) up to 38,7% or about 1.459 metric tons in 2023. The numbers derived from the mills in Papua Barat Daya.
Asian Agri’s Palm Oil Traceability System Explained
Asian Agri currently has 20 palm oil mills in the North Sumatra, Riau and Jambi provinces of Indonesia, and its FFB traceability system allows the company to know exactly which plantation each FFB it receives originated from. “FFB traceability is developed to avoid and reduce exploitation of protected forests and national parks,” said Ivan

- How FFBS are harvested?
- The FFBs are harvested according to harvesting cycles and delivered to the mills on the same day. The quality of crude palm oil is dependent on the care taken after harvesting, particularly on the handling of the FFBs. Figure 1. Fresh fruit bunches waiting for processing at palm oil mill.
- Why is FFB important in palm oil production?
- Processing of FFB is an unavoidable part in the production of palm oil. Evolving primitively from Africa, the basic mechanical extraction process adopted in the industry still remains. As a dynamic and progressive industry significant improvements have been achieved in the palm oil milling, both hardware and software.
- Does oil palm production have a water footprint?
- Water accounting across the production of fresh fruit bunch (FFB) in the oil palm¡¯s life cycle is gaining momentum arising from the importance placed on the need to quantify water footprint (WF). This article quantifies the WF of FFB production from oil palms grown in some areas in Malaysia, from an inventory data gathered from 2009-2012.
