Myanmar builds first rice bran oil plant to boost local oil
Under the guidance of the union government and Myanmar Rice Federation, MRBO has been building a 200-ton crude rice bran oil plant, along with a 50-ton oil refinery since February this year. The plant will have the capacity to produce 90,000 tons of crude oil and 6,300 tons of refined oil annually, the company said.

Rice Bran Oil: Emerging Trends in Extraction, Health Benefit
Abstract: Rice bran oil (RBO) is unique among edible vegetable oils because of its unique fatty acid composition, phenolic compound (γ-oryzanol, ferulic acid) and vitamin E (tocopherol and tocotrienol). It has become a great choice of cooking oil because of its very high burning point, neutral taste and delicate flavour.
The production involves several key steps. First, the bran gets separated from the grain. Next, it undergoes a process to extract the oil, usually involving solvents or pressing. The crude oil then gets refined to remove impurities, resulting in clear, healthy oil ready for use.

Rice is one of the most important crops throughout the world, as it contributes toward satisfying the food demand of much of the global population. It is well known that rice production generates a considerable number of by-products, among which rice bran deserves particular attention. This by-product is exceptionally rich in nutrients, since it contains a wide spectrum of macronutrients

1. Introduction. Rice bran is a byproduct of the rice milling industry obtained from milling of brown rice to produce white rice. It contains 15%–20% of oil. Apart from oil, rice bran is a promising source for proteins, carbohydrates, dietary fiber, vitamins, tocopherol, γ-oryzanol, and phospholipids (Tao, 1989; Houston, 1972; Saunders, 1986).
Membrane degumming of crude rice bran oil: Pilot plant study
A critical work has been carried out to study the application of membrane technology in the pretreatment of crude rice bran oil. Oils intended for physical refining should have a low phosphorus content, and this is not readily achievable by the conventional acid/water degumming process.
Crude rice bran oil (RBO) is rich in valuable minor components such as tocotrienols, phytosterols and γ-oryzanol. These compounds are well preserved during physical refining, but in current industrial practice, RBO is mostly refined chemically because this results in a lighter color. However this process removes most of the γ-oryzanol.
- How is rice bran oil refined?
- After the extraction, the crude rice bran oil is often refined in order to improve its quality and commercial value. The fundamental steps of the refining process include dewaxing, degumming, neutralization of the free fatty acids, bleaching, and steam deodorization.
